Going to College Close to Home.

A great university in my backyard.

It’s funny—when you’re younger and thinking about going off to college, you dream about going somewhere far from home. But, when it came down to choosing the best business school for me, it was the one right in my backyard—the University of Pittsburgh.

Being from Butler, which is about 30 miles from Pittsburgh, I had access to go home as much as I’d like but chose to only go home for long breaks so it still felt like I was going to college far from home.

I chose Pitt Business not only for its great national ranking but its access to all of the resources that come with the city of Pittsburgh. You are placed in an immediate advantage of attending Pitt because of the connections you can make with local alumni and recruiters.

I am pursuing majors in Marketing and Supply Chain Management, as well as a certificate in Business Analytics. This combination appeals to both my creative and analytical interests and has helped make myself more marketable for internship opportunities. Pitt Business has seven majors in total and a ton of certificates and minors across the University. Interested in studying something specific? They have it.

My Pitt Journey Begins

Welcome to Pitt!

During my freshman year, I lived in Bruce Hall, the Pitt Business-specific living-learning community, where you can meet other students that share your interests and classes. Some of my best friendships during my time at Pitt started in Bruce Hall. It’s great to have to opportunity to participate in professional, academic, and social programming right from the jump.

My resident assistant was the leader of Women in Business (WIB), a student organization at the school. She convinced me to join WIB and it has been instrumental throughout my college career. The organization helped me fine-tune my resume and learn how to network with recruiters. Over the course of four years, I’ve served as the Vice President of Marketing and Member Relations and the Executive Vice President.

My favorite class was Advertising and Sales Promotion with Dr. Bob Gilbert, a former executive in marketing. His class was so engaging that I’m planning to take his Projects in Marketing course next year, where students get to work on a real-world project for a client. In the past, this class has worked with companies like Honda, the NFL, American Eagle, and Fox Sports.

From The Classroom, To The City, To The World.

International Opportunities

One of the benefits of attending Pitt Business is the ability to jump right into an international opportunity at the end of your freshman year. I was able to participate in the Plus3 Italy program, which included two weeks of study in Italy in the field of supply chain in fashion. We were able to visit five different cities and had the opportunity to tour a silk factory in Lake Como. We were able to see exclusive designs for Chanel, Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton. Another highlight of the trip was visiting the MF1-Mario Faroni Knitwear Factory and seeing their latest line before it even hit the market.

Building My Career

To the next level.

Because we’re based in the city, I’ve been able to take part in some fantastic internships during my time at Pitt Business. I’ve interned with Pitt Athletics in marketing and game-day operations. Pitt being a major school in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has allowed me to utilize my creative, organizational and leadership skills on the big stage.

Last summer, I worked with FedEx in internal controls analytics and will be returning this summer to intern in the settlements department. The Career Development team helped me develop my resume, and conduct some mock interviews so I was ready to nail my interviews.

I am looking forward to my senior year and hope to land a full-time job in the fall all while taking the Women in Business student organization to the next level! I can’t wait to start my career in marketing and supply chain!
