Introducing the Pitt Business International Business Student Club

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

The new Society for International Business (SIB) aims to help students at the University of Pittsburgh interested in global business connect with globally minded students, increase their knowledge of global business, and improve professional skills that resonate with employers.

Prior to this semester, no internationally focused clubs or student organizations existed at Pitt Business. Molly Shannon, a sophomore majoring in accounting and finance, wanted to change that. After talking to a few friends, she decided to create their own.

For those students just interested in studying abroad we plan to offer benefits to improve their abroad experience. I am very excited to see what the future holds for SIB,” says Shannon.

The SIB has big plans for the next few semesters, including:

  • Bring in guest speakers to teach members about the numerous international opportunities available in Pittsburgh.
  • Develop a buddy program with incoming international students and participate in an international service project.
  • Create a study abroad scholarship for active members.

Since the society is a new club on campus, there are numerous opportunities for members to step into leadership roles. Contact Shannon, the SIB president, at to learn how you can get involved.

Study abroad is a major part of Pitt Business and many business students benefited from programs offered all over the world. Kelsey Magilton, a senior marketing major who had the opportunity to complete an internship at the Sydney Opera House, said of the experience: “Waking up every morning and making the commute to the most distinguished building in Australia was a surreal experience”.

Pitt Business summer study abroad applications are open until January 20, 2017. The deadline for the fall 2017 programs is March, 2017.
