The Pitt Business Cybersecurity Academy prepares students to enter the workforce conversant in the language of cyber risk, not as engineers, but as business professionals who can recognize, govern, and communicate cybersecurity exposure inside any organization. Cybersecurity is a board-level financial, legal, and operational risk that touches every business function, from accounting and finance to marketing, supply chain, and human resources. It complements every Pitt Business major by adding a credential and vocabulary that employers across all sectors now actively recruit for.
Schedule
This program runs every fall semester and consists of seven two-hour sessions.
What You Learn
• Speak fluently about cyber risk in business and governance terms that resonate with executives and recruiters.
• Read and interpret the dominant security frameworks (NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Controls) at a working level.
• Connect cybersecurity to financial statements, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk management.
• Analyze a real-world breach and articulate the business decisions that drove its outcome.
• Map their own major and strengths to specific, in-demand cyber-adjacent career paths.
• Design a business continuity plan focused on detection, analysis, and recovery from a cyber incident.
• Present a capstone risk briefing in the format a hiring manager or board would expect
