Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2017

Major: Finance

Study Abroad Programs: Global Business Institute: Sydney

During my time at the Global Business Institute: Sydney, I had the opportunity to meet people from several different U.S. schools, as well as other native Australians. Throughout my experience, I learned a great deal about how significantly different the culture of Australia is compared to the United States, where Australia puts a strong emphasis on humility, personal fitness, and sociability. Plus, I had the chance to see the workplace culture in Sydney, which stressed work/life balance more than what I have experienced in the United States, and was best exemplified by a guaranteed two weeks of vacation.

Study Abroad Programs: Global Business Institute: London

Everyone says that studying abroad is life-changing, and I’m here to confirm that that is totally true. I chose the Pitt in London program in the fall of my junior year and it was the best decision of my life. What’s great about the Global Business Institute: London is that it is a Panther program, so I had zero trouble making sure classes counted towards my degree and other nuances that some students find with other programs. They took care of classes, housing, transportation in the city, and placing me in an internship, so while moving across the pond is daunting, it was also very doable.

I learned so much about the world and international business through my classes and my internship, so I think I truly have a better understanding about what makes the world go round. I was fortunate enough to intern for a PR company where I was able to do some work for Jaguar. London is a global city, with so much to see and do, so I was always learning every step of the way. What’s so great about this city is that for me, as an American, it was familiar and different at the same time.

Certificates: International Business & German for Professional Purposes

Study Abroad Programs: DIS Copenhagen, International Internship Program-Berlin, and Plus3 China

From China to Germany to Denmark, Pitt has taken me to places I could've only dreamed of seeing. I've been lucky enough to do a study abroad "three-peat" in incredibly different and beautiful places, gleaning lessons of personal, professional, and of course educational nature. As a freshman, my trip to Beijing with Pitt's Plus 3 program opened my eyes to how broad the world of business really is. The importance of tact and awareness of others became pervasive themes in my mind. I carried those lessons with me after my sophomore year to my internship in Berlin with a family product advertising agency, where I learned the value of hard work as I saw classroom concepts play out in real time. It was during these 3 months away from home that I also learned more about myself and my goals; it became clearer that I wasn't quite done in Europe. I chose a semester program in Copenhagen for my junior year to complete some general education requirements and explore my Scandinavian roots. Taking architecture, urban studies, and philosophy classes has given me a broader sense of the other worlds of learning taking place around me besides business. I plan on carrying my lessons of cultural appreciation, professional conduct, and general curiosity and passion for learning with me back to the classroom and my future places of work.

Study Abroad Program: API Poland

Studying abroad in Poland has been an amazing experience. It's been years since I've been here, so being able to reconnect with my heritage and family has been very fulfilling. I have made so many new relationships and there is never a dull moment here in Kraków. I've learned so much about this culture and myself that spending this semester abroad is easily one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Study Abroad Programs: ISA Florianopolis, Pitt in Spain

As a business student with a particular interest in international business, having language and cultural experience is vital to my career success. At Pitt, opportunities to immerse myself in both of those key experiences are bountiful. I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to study abroad in Spain last summer and to study in Brazil this summer.

The cultural encounters experienced through study abroad are invaluable for personal, academic, and career development. I learned so much about myself and others and the competencies needed for cultural interaction not only through classes and communication with teachers, but also through interactions with natives of the country, exploration, and cultural excursions. I could not have developed skills such as mastering the Spanish accent or learning to effectively handle culture shock while juggling real-world responsibilities without being completely immersed in the culture. These uncommon skills will differentiate me in the career market, give me a competitive edge, and ultimately carry me toward success in the international business world.

Study Abroad Programs: Berlin School of Economics and Law, Vienna University of Economics and Business

Spending six months in Berlin provided me the opportunity to expand my network on an international scale.  As the only American student in my building, I was able to develop friendships with other business majors from all around the world.  Aside from the friendships I’ve made, I was also able to immerse myself in the eclectic culture of Berlin. A quick Google search will tell you about the many facades of Germany's capital; from the unavoidable music scene, to the park and café culture, to the recent history that is visible throughout the entire city, Berlin offers something for everyone. The city is full of interesting people, cool street art, and many spaces that are waiting to be explored. If you are looking a six-month adventure, rather than just a study abroad experience, Berlin is the city for you.

Study Abroad Programs: International Internship Program - Madrid

The experience gave me the opportunity to work for an incredible global company such as Morningstar. The Morningstar office spoke completely in Spanish, so I had to immerse myself with the language, and even gave a few presentations to my bosses entirely in the native language. By the end of the program my language skills were quite good.
