Kathleen Foody-Malus is a retired senior executive with over 30+ years of diversified Investment experience in the Financial Services industry. Most recently she spent the last decade at Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp., (Freddie Mac) as Vice President/Senior Portfolio Manager, where she was responsible for the management of the investment portfolios concentrated in adjustable and fixed rate mortgage backed securities. These portfolios ranked in the top 10 in size of securitized assets under management globally. In addition, she was responsible for the management of the Liquidity Portfolio which was used in the daily liquidity and funding needs of the overall corporation (Freddie Mac). During her tenure at Freddie Mac she developed and implemented successful strategies to meet various ongoing US Government housing mandates. Upon the GSEs being taken into conservatorship during the financial crisis, she was involved in executing investment strategies for the investment portfolios to generate competitive returns to meet the mandated US Treasury quarterly payments.
She began her career at Federated Investors in Pittsburgh where she spent 20 years focusing on Fixed Income Securities notably mortgage backed securities. She ultimately rose to Vice President of Mortgage Backed Securities where she was responsible for managing eight total return fixed income mutual funds with assets totaling over $7B. Two of the funds that she managed were consistently ranked in the top quartile of Lipper Mortgage and US Government Universes over a variety of time horizons (quarterly to 10-yrs). She was involved in the successful development of the first adjustable rate mortgage fund for institutional investors.
Given her breadth of knowledge on the mortgage backed securities market she has been a guest speaker at a number of fixed income symposiums on the mortgage backed securities market.
