20th Anniversary Block Party Unites Pitt Business Community
To kick off the 2015 Homecoming Weekend, the University of Pittsburgh’s College of Business Administration hosted the second-annual Pitt Business Block Party. More than 700 current students, Pitt Business alumni, faculty, and staff joined together for an evening of networking, prizes, food, and fun.
The block party, which included live music, games, and free Pitt Business t shirts, was sponsored by UPMC. Students also enjoyed sandwiches provided by Jimmy John’s and ice cream courtesy of Bruster’s Real Ice Cream.
In the ultimate ice-breaker activity, recruiters from UPMC played corn hole toss and four square alongside Pitt Business students.
Students were encouraged to enter several raffles for prizes including a gift card to the University of Pittsburgh Bookstore and tickets to upcoming Pitt sporting Events. Pitt Business student Brittany Carter won a $1,000 study abroad scholarship for a Panther Program of her choice during this academic year.
The much anticipated return of the Dunk Tank did not disappoint and even inspired friendly fire between Robert Gilbert, a marketing professor, and Ryan Teeter, an accounting professor. Teeter took the plunge for the second year in a row.
No homecoming celebration at the University of Pittsburgh would be complete without a group sing-along to “Sweet Caroline,” and the rendition performed at the Block Party even included Roc the Panther, the Pitt Dance Team, and the Pitt Cheerleaders.
“This is such a fun event for the entire Pitt Business community. All the hard work of the Career Services team, academic advisors, and Pitt Business staff really paid off. This is what the 20th anniversary celebration is all about,” Associate Dean Audrey Murrell said.
The Block Party is one of many events planned in the year-long anniversary celebration. Pitt Business alumni, students, and faculty are encouraged to engage with the Pitt Business community using hashtag #PittBusiness20 on social media during these events. Posts that include the hashtag will be displayed on the 20th Anniversary Website.
